Andrew Sylvia

Well today was another glorious day here on the beach. My good friends and neighbors Amy and Bryan Klauser and they cute little kids Eva and Rudi decided to help out a friends family, Andrew Sylvia. This young man and father of three kids passed away last week after a hard fight with cancer. I worked wirh Andrew painting houses for flying colors. He was always really fun to work with and always seemed to be in a good mood. The Klausers children Eva and Rudi made a lemon aide stand to raise money for Adrews family They actually raised almost 600 dollars!!!! Good job kids!!

self portrait
this is a new xray, the thing in my neck is where I broke it surfing in 96' and the twist ties in my chest are fron open heart. I had these xrays and an MRI done because of a ruptured disk I got kitesurfing the other week. Unfortunately it looks like I'm out for a couple of weeks. Going in Friday for a epidural in my spine... sure hope it works, i have been in a great deal of pain the past week and really want to be out on the water with my buddies!

everything comes together

Wind sw 20+ waves 1-2foot overhead=epic kitesurfing. Did a 6 mile downwinder with bryan harvey, from s-turns to the boiler! Broke my board in two with my head ouch! Today was the kind of day that we wait for here on the outer banks...I snapped just this one picture right before we went. Really I was just using the zoom to see what size kites our other buddies were on that took off about 30 minutes before us.
This is probably what I looked like when the head high wall of shorebreak broke my board on my face!

Surprise kite day!
Downwinder from black pelican to mp10
13meter waves were chest high and the wind was 20mph
Well went out in the sound in the morning and had a blast in duck. Got a call from a bro that was heading to the beach for a ocean sheesh and tagged a long. It was really fun the water was pretty warm for up here and the water was a beautiful carib blue color. The wind was a little light but that made for clean wave faces. Hoping for some sw wind this weekend. Sorry no pictures

super windy izzys
Well it blew like crazy today. Keith and I went to the south side and it was super windy and pretty offshore, these pictures of Keith are a testament to how skilled a sailor he is. The conditions were tuff to say the least. We were on 4.2m and should of rigged 3.5s. the wind was very offshore and the current was not too bad but there. The surf was there but the wind strength and direction were not ideal, perhaps tomorrow. I do think some people caught ocracoke with better conditions

kite shesh gone bad
Went out for a fun time in the sound on my 13m waroo, but as I was dragging my gear out for a drift launch a bunch of reeds got tangled up in my lines. As I tried to launch shit hit the fan. After untangling all my lines and getting ready to relaunch my board slipped out of my hands and the fin sliced a two inch hole in the kite. I figured this was a sign to just give it up...so I did. Oh well theres always tomorrow.

windy and warm 13m sw20-30
wow I was really worried after driving all the way to the point yesterday and basically getting skunked that it was going to not happen again today. As the wind was blowing sw 15-20 all morning the skies were filled with passing thunderstorms, but thanks to the Internet and being able to watch the radar i could see a break in the clouds was possible in the afternoon. At about 3 in the afternoon the skies cleared and the wind started up. Kited all night right out in front of my house and up to the blue point for a "show off session" haha! Wore my killer ion 4/3 sleevless fullsuit and the north xride 135cm. About 6:30 the wind picked up to almost 30 and I pointed back to the house where my gal had dinner waiting.......life is glorious. Oh by the heres my new board coming this summer, I will be the coolest kid on my block

Wavesailing ego beach
heres on of me doing a bottom turn while dave launches

Well its was windy yet again and with some leftover swell the crew hit ego beach for some very fun waves. 4.7m. Not sure if there are any good pictures of today but I do think this was one of the best days of 2008. I just hope I have enough energy for tomorrow...............

chilli north wind
back was killing me today but after work the sound in front of the house looked to fun to pass up. Today I rode my 13m waroo with the North Jaime Pro 2008 134cm. Probably not the best conditions to review this board, choppy and inconsistent wind. Nonetheless, the board was fun. As all the north board the foot pads and straps were Cadillac comfy. The Jaime pro was not as comfortable a ride as the Xride it seemed a little ridged, but again the cross chop I was dealing was tremendous. I will ride this again to get a better idea on this board.

ego to ocean air 13m waroo
Just your basic glorious solo downwinder from kite point to the shop. Used the north 2008 xride 135cm x 39cm / 2,5kg it is a great board went upwind like a dream, tons of pop for big airs, heal side carving was awesome toe side a little tricky. The surf style fins were a little sticky in the sound and probably best suited for surf, But overall a kick ass board.

strange waves
Bill Keith and I sailed on the cove side of the point. The current was swirling around making for some difficult sailing, not to metion the wind was very up and down. I caught a few waves got a couple of good airs but nothing to get all that pumped over. I did see keith throw a forward about 50 feet off the beach so that was cool. I forgot how hard he rips. Shot some video of Bill on his blog

South winds at oregon inlet
South winds 20 to 22 mph produced side off conditions just south of the Oregon inlet bridge, with waist to chest high sets coming in I had easily the best wave sailing day of 2008. My cohorts of the day Andy Stuart bill and caleb might not be as phyched up about the conditions but I mostly attribute that to the low volume of their boards, all of which were in the 80 ltr range. While I was on my 93 ltr "wave" board. My buddies were catching waves but having a hard time staying upwind, with the current and the light wind on the inside. I am very thankfull I bought that board last year, I have used it more than I thought I would have.

west wind freestyle
Showed up in Avon to drop off some gear at Ocean Air and was surprised to see sunny skies and west winds blowing 20-25. Went out on 5.0 and joker 100ltr for some flat water freestyle. The ocean was flat and I think the h20 temp was around 47* so the sound was the call. Andy Showed up and was helping me with some freestyle moves. All in all another fun day on the water. Out of town visitor Neil showed up as well and did some speed runs. The water was a little chilly but so very clear, in fact if I hadn't been cover from head to toe in rubber I may have been in the Caribbean!

finally somthing to post
I headed to avon early. Forcast was for 20 plus out of the sw. When I showed up at the hole it was not even close, and with a monster green, red and yellow line on the radar I didnt hold out much hope but rigged up anyway and glad I did. The wind very quickly picked up untill the crew there including some friendly kiteboarders where lit up on 5.0s. That was until a grey line of clouds approched and chased us off the water with barely enough time to throw my stuff in the truck before we were hit and hit hard by 40 to 50 mph winds. It was some serious weather and might even say it was pushing 60 at its peak. Cold and hungry I headed for some grub and went home. Heres andy mid freestyle trick thing and another of the squal that came through.

BIG WEDNESDAY
Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Rolled the dice today. I windsurf was calling for some southeast wind so I drove south thinking a cove session would be the call. However, the wind had to much south so I decided the point would be better. Called andy and we had a pretty good time. There was a little shlogging at first but we started to get some good runs and some good wave riding in even though it was basically side on(maybe a little side shore) By the end of the day I was thankful we went out and super stoked I had someone to sail with, otherwise I dont think I would of bothered. Thanks Andy! oh 5.2 meter sail winds were 20ish andy was on a 5.7 I think, waves were knee to waist with some chest high sets.both pictures are from lost in hatteras blog

EGO BEACH
Had a fun time at ego beach today. started on a 5.4 but then rigged down to a 4.6 and had alot of fun. The waves were a little sub par 1-3 feet... but whatever it was good to get out. Andy Stuart Caleb and Bill Bell all in attendance. Thank you to bill bells friend tony for taking these videos I stole from billsblog

Well had a nice solo seash at coquina beach. Thought the gang was on their way but they(Andy bill Stuart Caleb) all stayed at boilers..they wind was south 25-30 air 60 water 45. Rode my 4.7 with no hood or gloves. Caught some nice little waves. After I was done went down to the boiler to find Caleb about a mile down the beach from his gang. After picking him up he was pretty shook up. Caleb said he thought he was gonna die, and Friday was his birthday! Glad you made it buddy! Mental note to self--Cold water will always step up the danger factor in any condition.
